Educational path

Maxime Ginolin was born in Aix-les-Bains, France, on September 28, 1988, to a French father and an Italian mother. At a very young age, his parents moved to Morocco where he lived until he was 19 years old. After earning a B.A in literature, he returned to France to dedicate himself to composing music. A year later, he entered the Factory School of Lyon, where, in 2013, he was awarded his certificate of filmmaker and director.

Artistic world

Maxime Ginolin is a composer, singer, director and actor who has been inspired by artists like Jim Carrey, Danny Elfman, Kurt Cobain, Eddy Vedder and Andy Kaufman. In 2010, he created the character of MagiCJacK which he embodies. This character moves through his own universe. Maxime realizes his works through a style reminiscent of Tim Burton and Paul Verhoeven. In 2018 he created a new musical project named Max Rage.

Music

The musical universe of Maxime Ginolin is inspired by grunge music and tribal sounds, whereas that of MagiCJacK progresses within a Tim Burtonesque theatrical style combined with a rock-metal musical.

In 2011, the first album of MagiCJacK « Dawn of a New Age » sees the light of day. It addresses the topics of poverty, animal exploitation, corruption, banking dictatorship, totalitarian mercantile system, religion and environmental destruction.

The following year, Maxime self-released his album Human or not Human, in which he highlighted many of the same themes. With the release of this second album in 2013, Maxime went on a promotional tour for the first time in France. The following year, he was invited to perform at concerts worldwide. His tour took him to the United States, Canada as well as throughout Europe.

In 2014, he traveled to Gabon. Some footage shot during his journey there was used to create the video, Make the Connection. That video will be a single off his next album, Evolution or Extinction.

Films

At the same time his album was being released in 2013, Maxime was also making his landmark, The Judgement (Le Jugement), a film critical of agribusiness lobbies. Through MagiCJacK’s dialogue, we come to understand the devastating consequences of our actions – and/or inactions. Upon its release, the film was an immediate success on the Internet, with over one million views. Thus, it became one of the most-viewed medium-length French film in YouTube history! The movie was screened in Los Angeles during the 2014 National Animal Rights Conference, and at the World Vegan Summit in 2015. An international English-version is just now in release.

During his stay in the USA, Maxime met Shaun Monson, the director of the movie, Earthlings. They decided to make a new French version of the movie. It was released in 2015, with Maxime providing the narration.

Commitment

Vegan for several years, Maxime is very committed to fighting animal exploitation and environmental destruction.

As part of his commitment, he went to Gabon in 2014, joining his friend, Luc Mathot (founder/director of Conservation Justice, an NGO fighting against poaching), to investigate wildlife trafficking. As soon as Make the Connection was released, the two friends launched a cyber campaign, with more than a dozen organizations, aimed at putting pressure on CITES, an organization whose mandate is the protection of wildlife and endangered species, as well as the prevention of illegal traffic in them.

Besides his artistic career, Maxime runs conferences on environment, health and animal rights. In France, these conferences have been held in places such as The Sorbonne, and The University of Science in Marseille. Other conferences were held in Switzerland, Belgium, Québec and Morocco.
